Milo of Crotona - After Bargue

November, 2023, Slightly Under A4, Graphite on Paper

Since the 1800s, art students have copied from a course of lithographic plates created by Charles Bargue. They remain one of the best loved courses for developing realist techniques, and I am proud to join the tradition! The first image shows my work in graphite, the second is the original Bargue, and the third shows the two overlayed in Photoshop to show how the two compare (red is mine and blue is the original). No measurement was used in copying the image - only proportions, angles, and gradual refinement. These are the same tools available when drawing from life.
